Mackie developed the idea for a poolside setting during lockdown, using a green sea turtle at Cotswold Wildlife Park as a research reference when travel was impossible.

He modelled the supporting plant forms upside down to achieve the sensation of underwater movement. Lockbund Foundry undertook the technically demanding stainless-steel casting and finishing process; development from the original model to the finished piece took about a year. The silvery material, open composition and potential reflections accentuate the fluidity of the sea creatures.

Medium: Marine-grade stainless steel
Edition: Signed and dated 2020; numbered edition of 9
Dimensions: 175 H × 170 L × 85 W cm, including stainless-steel base
Additional details: Weight: 225 kg including base.
