Die Atlantik-Bastardschildkröte ist die kleinste und am stärksten bedrohte Meeresschildkröte der Welt; man geht davon aus, dass heute weniger als 9.000 Exemplare in freier Wildbahn leben. Diese majestätischen Schildkröten leben in den warmen Gewässern des Golfs von Mexiko und sind nur selten zu sehen, außer wenn sie ihre Eier in riesigen Gruppen an Stränden ablegen. Dieses Nistverhalten wird als "Arribada" bezeichnet, bei dem bis zu 100 Eier in einem einzigen Nest abgelegt werden.
Unter dem Titel 'Ancient Traveller' (Uralter Reisender) versucht diese Skulptur, die zeitlose Reise der Meeresschildkröte einzufangen. Als eines der ältesten Lebewesen des Planeten, das zahllose Veränderungen der Weltmeere miterlebt hat, legt die Atlantik-Bastardschildkröte weite Strecken durch unsere Ozeane zurück und kehrt oft an dieselben Strände zurück, an denen sie geboren wurde.

Die Komposition dieses Stücks lässt die Schildkröte mühelos durch den Ozean gleiten, mit einem heiteren Glanz in den Augen. Der Panzer ist aus Eichenholz gefertigt und vermittelt ein Gefühl von Langlebigkeit, Weisheit und Widerstandsfähigkeit.
