Der Pfau ist ein reiches kulturelles Symbol und steht häufig für Schönheit, Stolz, Wiedergeburt, Intelligenz, Macht und Transformation. Er stammt aus Indien, wo er im Hinduismus der Göttin Lakshmi heilig ist, die Reichtum, Schönheit und Wohlstand symbolisiert.

Als einer der farbenprächtigsten Vögel der Welt erwacht das Pfauenmännchen während der Paarungszeit im Frühjahr zum Leben, wenn sein Rad (Schwanz) eine Länge von bis zu 2 Metern erreicht. Es wird als Teil seines Balzverhaltens eingesetzt, bei dem er die Federn weit auffächert, die „Augenfedern“ enthüllt und sie schüttelt, um Weibchen anzulocken.

Diese Skulptur vereint die gesamte Symbolik des Pfaus und bringt sein arrogantes, aber wunderschönes Wesen zur Geltung, wobei sein Kopf leicht erhoben ist und aus einer Höhe von 1,75 Metern auf einen herabblickt. Die Gestaltung des Sockels greift die Assoziation des Pfaus mit Intelligenz auf: Der Pfau erklimmt die Bücher, als wären sie eine Treppe zum Königtum. Gefertigt aus 260 g/m² schwerem Pastellpapier, wurde jede Feder einzeln von Hand geschnitten, bemalt und auf die Hauptstruktur geklebt – ein wahrlich einzigartiges Kunstwerk.
