AUFSTIEG (Einmalig)

Als imposantes Werk aus Nicola Beatties Monolith-Serie schöpft diese Skulptur direkt aus der befestigten Landschaft von Pembrokeshire – ihre Burgen, Ruinen und die von der Zeit gezeichnete Architektur sind in die Form eingebettet. Hoch und bodenständig, spiegelt das Stück die physische Präsenz steinerner Türme und Verteidigungsmauern wider, die durch Jahrhunderte von Konflikten und Beständigkeit geformt wurden.

Im Kern befindet sich eine geschnitzte Treppe, die stetig durch den Körper der Skulptur zu einer schmalen Öffnung an der Spitze emporsteigt. Dieser Aufstieg aus der Dunkelheit ins Licht wird zu einer stillen Metapher für Hoffnung – eine lange, aufsteigende Reise durch Kampf, Unruhe und Ungewissheit hin zu Zuflucht und Klarheit. Die Stufen sind wohlüberlegt und kompromisslos und unterstreichen das Maß an Ausdauer, das erforderlich ist, um den Gipfel zu erreichen.

Die Textur spielt eine zentrale Rolle. Der untere Teil ist aggressiv bearbeitet und erinnert an Kampf, Erosion und das Gewicht der Geschichte. Während sich die Form nach oben hin entwickelt, werden die Oberflächen allmählich weicher und heller, was den emotionalen Wandel von Konflikt hin zu Ruhe und Lösung widerspiegelt.

Aus walisischer Eiche geschnitzt, trägt die Skulptur sowohl physisches als auch symbolisches Gewicht – verwurzelt in Ort, Erinnerung und Widerstandsfähigkeit. „Ascent“ steht als kontemplatives Denkmal der Beständigkeit und bietet einen Moment der Stille am Ende eines hart erkämpften Aufstiegs.
