CURVILIGNE (Unique)

Curvilinear a été conçue et réalisée sur commande pour un nouveau gratte-ciel emblématique et complexe de luxe, One Blackfriars, sur la rive sud de Londres. Avec la forme légèrement atypique, arrondie et semblable à une voile du bâtiment, les architectes se sont probablement inspirés des œuvres sculpturales de Barbara Hepworth. Ce thème a été repris dans la conception intérieure et je suis certain que si le budget l'avait permis, des sculptures d'Hepworth auraient été acquises pour des espaces clés de l'intérieur.

Au lieu de cela, j'ai eu la chance d'être approché par le consultant artistique du projet, cherchant à commander une œuvre dont le style se rapprocherait de celui d'Hepworth. J'étais impatient de saisir cette opportunité pour montrer à quel point j'ai été fortement influencé par ses travaux et pour démontrer également que cette influence ne signifie pas pour autant que je cherche simplement à imiter ses créations.

Curvilinear a été élaborée grâce à une série de maquettes, en découpant et en manipulant des cercles de papier et de métal fin pour aboutir finalement à une forme 3D unique. Le design final a pu ensuite être mis à l'échelle et réalisé en feuilles de bronze ; c'est à ce stade que l'étape suivante, consistant à définir les positions du réseau complexe de fils, a pu être minutieusement élaborée.

La sculpture qui en résulte est sans aucun doute la plus complexe, la plus longue à réaliser et la plus techniquement difficile que j'aie faite à ce jour.
