‘Boxing Hares’ by Hamish Mackie, a limited-edition bronze wildlife sculpture depicting two hares leaping and boxing in mid-air during their characteristic springtime courtship behaviour. The dynamic composition captures their extended limbs, twisting bodies and expressive movement, with richly textured surfaces that convey the energy of the original hand-modelled clay. Photograph shows the original clay sculpture prior to bronze casting.

BOXING HARES (Limited Edition of 12)

Images show clay original for bronze.

The sculpture captures two hares engaged in their characteristic springtime boxing, their bodies turning and meeting in mid-air. It draws on Mackie’s long-term observation of hares in the wild and his continuing exploration of their movement and temperament.

The figures are conceived with energetic modelling and a strong silhouette, balancing muscular action with a sense of delicacy. Mackie developed the original models in clay over metal armatures; the ceramic-shell lost-wax bronze process is intended to retain the expressive surface and tool marks. The composition is designed to be appreciated from different angles and is suitable in scale for an interior or garden setting.
