Jemma Worsfold’s Fixated captures Sariask, a Sri Lankan leopard, in a close-up portrait that brings every detail of this beautiful animal into focus. His intense gaze, golden coat and distinctive black markings are balanced by the softness of his fur and the fine detail around his eyes, nose and whiskers.

Created entirely using coloured pencils - Faber Castell Polychromos and Derwent drawing pencils - on dark grey Clairefontaine Pastelmat board, the artwork is built up through careful layers of colour and shading. The intricate detailing brings out the natural texture of the leopard’s coat, while the neutral background keeps the attention firmly on the animal.

With his mouth slightly open and tongue visible, Sariask is captured in a natural moment, giving the portrait both character and realism.

An original, one-off wildlife artwork, Fixated is a further example of Jemma’s skill in capturing the individual character of big cats through coloured pencil.
