Brendan Cullen
Stone Sculpture | Organic Form | Asymmetry & Energy
Brendan Cullen is a sculptor who shapes stone into organic curiosities, exploring the quiet tension found in asymmetry, imbalance, and natural forms. His work draws inspiration from music, emotion, and everyday geometry - seed pods, ripples, shells - and seeks to awaken movement and energy in stone that often looks static.
Since 2015, Brendan has collaborated with artisans in Pietrasanta, Italy, refining technique and sourcing rare marbles and limestones. His personal pieces range from Carrara and Purbeck to weathered Kilkenny and Patagonian onyx; each piece is handcrafted with strong attention to detail, surface, and form.
Brendan’s sculptures also serve public life. He has completed several large site-specific commissions in the Medway Valley region, and his work is held in numerous private collections. He balances his studio practice between these personal works and commissions, with each piece bearing his characteristic care and curiosity.
What makes Brendan Cullen’s work distinct is his ability to reconcile precision and untamed form - forms that seem to breathe despite the solidity of stone, shadows that suggest movement, and surfaces that ask to be touched. His sculptures draw you in, inviting a moment to see the imperfect, the unexpected, the quiet energy inside the stone.
