Our Story
I’m Jay Willson. After 35 years building and scaling commercial businesses for others, I decided it was time to build something of my own.
Following the end of a long-term marriage and a stress-related stroke, I stepped back to reassess what I wanted the next chapter of my life to look like. Leaving a senior corporate role in the City to recover gave me the time to focus on what really mattered. Artisan Collective came from that shift, bringing together my commercial experience, my family connection to art and a belief that the strongest results come from bringing the right people together.
I come from four generations of artists, including my great uncle, Chas C Stadden, a world-renowned military artist and sculptor. My nan was an accomplished porcelain painter, and my mum, Sandy, now 77, still creates and continues to introduce me to exceptional British and internationally based creators. That background gave me a genuine appreciation for originality, craftsmanship and the work behind the work. It also showed me how difficult it can be for exceptional creators to reach the right people and the right opportunities.
I’m not an art critic, valuer, dealer or consultant. What I bring is the ability to open doors, connect people, understand the requirement and structure opportunities properly. My background is in high-level sales, partnerships, negotiation and complex commercial agreements, and that experience now sits at the centre of how Artisan Collective operates.
Artisan Collective has grown into an established, commercially active and personally curated network of more than 150 leading creators. British-curated and globally represented, it supports private collectors, personal commissions and commercial projects across art, sculpture, furniture, lighting, ceramics, neon and a wide range of specialist creative disciplines.
The website shows only part of what sits behind the Collective. Full portfolios, additional work, commission capability and specialist expertise are available through direct conversation. That depth allows us to respond not only to individual requests and straightforward commissions, but also to unusual briefs, site-specific requirements and projects that call for collaboration between several creators or disciplines to create the desired result.
This is where the strength of the Collective becomes clear. We can begin with the requirement rather than the product, identify the right creative capability, bring the relevant people together and build a coordinated response around the opportunity. My role is to create the structure, keep the process clear and ensure that the right conversations happen with the right people.
What began as a personal reset is now a serious commercial proposition. Artisan Collective is established, in the room and increasingly involved in opportunities where range, judgement, relationships and commercial discipline matter. We do not wait for opportunities to appear. We create them.
Whether you are here to collect, commission, collaborate or bring us a brief that needs a different kind of creative response, I invite you to explore the work and the people behind the Collective.
The best relationships start with a simple chat, so feel free to get in touch.
