Carrie-Anne Funnell
GLASS SCULPTURE | COLOUR & LIGHT | BESPOKE INSTALLATION
Carrie-Anne Funnell is a British glass artist creating luminous sculptural works for interiors, gardens and public spaces. Recognised as one of the UK’s most exciting artists working in glass today, her practice brings together colour, structure and light to create pieces that transform the spaces they inhabit.
A graduate of De Montfort University, Leicester, where she achieved a first-class BA Honours degree in 3D Design specialising in glass, Carrie-Anne went on to lecture in the subject before founding Carrie Anne Funnell Glass Art with her partner Sean Mickleburgh. Together, they have built a studio known for ambitious bespoke work, close client collaboration and the ability to bring complex ideas into refined, beautifully engineered form.
Working with kiln-formed glass, often combined with stainless steel and carefully considered lighting, Carrie-Anne creates pieces that shift as the light changes around them. Layers of fused glass carry movement, colour and depth, while the structure gives each work the strength to sit confidently within architectural, garden and outdoor settings. The result is work that feels both delicate and enduring - glass used not just decoratively, but sculpturally.
Nature is central to her visual language. From the rhythm of planting and water to the changing colour of gardens through the seasons, her work often responds directly to place. A year spent travelling through 25 countries with Sean added further cultural influence and a wider sense of pattern, texture and form that continues to inform her practice.
Carrie-Anne’s sculptures have been exhibited and collected internationally, with early examples held in UK museum collections. Her large-scale works have featured at RHS Chelsea Flower Show, where she has received the highest awards annually since 2018, marking her out as a serious presence in the world of contemporary glass and garden sculpture.
Carrie-Anne Funnell’s work is about more than glass alone. It is about colour, light, relationship and place - sculpture created with technical skill, imagination and a clear understanding of how art can bring an environment to life.
