Fiona Scott-Wilson
Cut-Paper Art | Nature & Pattern | Colour in Harmony
Fiona Scott-Wilson is a British cut-paper artist whose work celebrates nature through colour, pattern and meticulous hand-craft. Using nothing more than scalpel, paper and patience, she creates compositions that feel both serene and expressive - artworks that balance the precision of design with the quiet poetry of the natural world.
Influenced by the Arts and Crafts Movement, Matisse’s paper cut-outs and the atmospheric palettes of Monet, Fiona approaches each piece as a construction of colour and form. Hundreds of individually cut shapes act like brushstrokes, gradually layered and positioned to build depth, rhythm and movement. Her materials are carefully chosen Italian papers, selected for their tone, texture and expressive potential.
Her Water Lilies series was born from time spent with the Impressionists at the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris. Standing before Monet’s monumental panels, she was moved by their scale and stillness - a moment that shaped her desire to capture the same sense of serenity, contrasted with the dynamic presence of birds and the expressive patterns found in nature.
Fiona’s work carries a sense of calm energy, balancing rich colour with graceful structure. Each piece invites the viewer to slow down, to notice the interplay of pattern and silhouette, and to experience the quiet pleasure of nature reimagined by hand.
