Fred Gordon
Wildlife Sculpture | Bronze | Power & Movement
Fred Gordon is a British sculptor whose work is defined by a deep passion for wildlife and the natural world. With minimal formal training but an instinctive gift for observation, he has forged his own path - travelling widely to study animals in their habitats and translating those encounters into sculpture that captures spirit, character, and movement with remarkable clarity.
From the British countryside to Sri Lanka and a three-month residency in Limpopo, South Africa, Fred works directly from life - sketching, photographing, and even modelling maquettes in front of his subjects. Back in the studio, this raw source material evolves into finished bronzes that carry the energy of the wild into solid form. His pieces are not simply anatomical studies; they are moments held still, alive with nuance and vitality.
His years working inside a foundry gave him an intimate knowledge of casting, and it was here he developed a unique approach - folding and layering heated wax sheets to build form. This spontaneous method leaves traces of fragmentation and abstraction within the surface, giving each sculpture a sense of hollowness, rhythm, and unpredictability. The result is work that feels both immediate and timeless, balancing fidelity to nature with expressive freedom.
For Fred Gordon, sculpture is a way of honouring the animals he encounters and the environments they inhabit. Each piece is at once a celebration of movement and a call for conservation - art that carries the wild into our shared spaces with honesty, beauty, and purpose.
