Hannah Lipsey
Coloured Pencil | Reflective Realism | Light & Illusion
Hannah Lipsey is a UK-based artist whose hyperrealist coloured pencil drawings transform reflective metal objects into works that feel tangible - alive with light, shadow, and personality. After two years living in America, where she returned to drawing and refined her practice, she began working as a full-time artist in 2020. A portrait of her niece in 2017 marked the start of this renewed artistic journey, laying the groundwork for her fascination with the textures and shine of inanimate objects that continue to captivate her today.
Her practice evolved from portraits to original works that explore the beauty of reflection. Each piece begins with hundreds of reference photos taken at different angles and under varying light, distilled into a single composition that captures both realism and surprise. One of her earliest and most meaningful pieces, Metal Man - a rose gold bottle opener - became the foundation of her distinctive style.
Although trained in fine art with a degree in abstract landscape painting, Hannah found her true voice in realism – drawing so precise that viewers often question whether they are looking at a photograph. By focusing on the way surfaces hold light, her drawings reveal the hidden elegance and character of everyday objects.
Her work has been shown at exhibitions including the Affordable Art Fair in London and New York, as well as specialist hyperrealist shows in Cambridge. Whether through commissions or gallery exhibitions, Hannah invites her audience to discover the extraordinary within the ordinary - objects reimagined with precision, depth, and a sense of wonder.
