Joe Fenton
Drawing & Sculpture | Imagination & Precision | Worlds Within Worlds
Joe Fenton is a British artist living in Los Angeles, whose large scale graphite drawings transport viewers into intricate, dreamlike worlds that blur imagination, architecture, myth, and memory. Working in pencil, ink, and acrylic, he creates monochrome compositions that are as much meditations as artworks, inviting the viewer into quiet immersion and discovery.
Trained in sculpture at Wimbledon College of Art, Joe began his career designing and sculpting for film studios before returning to his own creative path. That experience with structure and storytelling still underpins his work today. What began as a personal return to drawing has grown into a lifelong pursuit of stillness, patience, and control through simple, traditional materials.
Each piece takes months to complete. Ornate temples, celestial figures, and symbolic architectures rise from the page through precision and intuition, each world built line by line and detail by detail. Though rooted in graphite, his work feels sculptural, with light and shadow carving depth and emotion as much as line.
Recently Joe has reconnected with his sculptural roots, transforming his drawings into physical form. His latest piece, The Last Bacchanal, explores themes of excess and indulgence through an ornate hand sculpted frame cast in resin from oil based clay. Alongside his drawings and sculpture, Joe also creates highly detailed artworks on guitars and other objects, extending his surreal worlds into new surfaces and dimensions.
From publishing and film to international exhibitions and private collections, Joe’s art continues to evolve while remaining faithful to the craft and discipline that define it. Whether through the graphite worlds of Solitude, The Herd, or Redrum, the sculptural theatre of The Last Bacchanal, or his customised guitar pieces, each work invites the viewer to slow down, look closer, and step inside imagination made tangible.
Each creation is a portal, a world within a world, where patience, precision, and poetic vision meet.
