Kate Grant
RESIN & PAINT | COLOUR & DEPTH | ART & SCIENCE
Kate Grant is a British artist and practising physician whose work explores colour, movement and the intersection between artistic instinct and scientific thinking. For over three decades she has balanced medicine with a commitment to art, allowing each discipline to inform the other. The result is work that feels both visually immediate and intellectually grounded, shaped by curiosity, observation and a deep engagement with the world around her.
Her resin works sit at the centre of her practice. Created through layered pours and controlled movement, they capture depth, light and a sense of constant evolution across the surface. Colour is used with confidence, often contrasted with darker tones to introduce balance and tension. Geometry and flow coexist, structure held in place while movement is allowed to unfold.
Alongside this, her paintings bring a more direct, expressive energy, where instinct and precision sit side by side. Across both mediums, Kate is drawn to complexity rather than simplicity, using her work to explore ideas that challenge, provoke and evolve through the process itself.
Her background in medicine plays a quiet but important role. Years of scientific training have shaped a disciplined way of thinking, observing and refining, which carries through into her creative approach. Rather than illustrating data, she responds to the experience of research itself, the focus, persistence and breakthrough that define it, translating those ideas into visual form.
Her work has evolved through different stages of life and location, from early anatomical studies to influences drawn from botanical environments, coastal landscapes and changing light. More recently, her practice has explored the space between art and science more directly, reflecting an ongoing interest in how creativity and inquiry intersect.
Kate Grant’s work is driven by curiosity and intent. Whether in resin or paint, her pieces move beyond surface impact to reveal depth, rhythm and meaning, inviting the viewer to look closer and engage with the layers beneath.
