Lucy d’Auvergne
Animal Sculpture | Presence & Energy | Signature Patina
Lucy d’Auvergne has spent more than three decades immersed in the lives of wild and domestic animals, working in conservation, film, and art to better understand their beauty and fragility in a rapidly changing world. That depth of experience gives her sculpture a rare empathy; she knows not just how animals look, but how they move, respond, and exist within their own quiet dignity.
Lucy works directly from life whenever possible, photographing and observing to understand her subjects’ essence before translating them into lasting form. Each sculpture begins in clay and is cast in bronze or other metals, but what truly defines her work is a patination process she developed herself. Using natural pigments and patient, layered hand-colouring, she builds warmth and depth until each surface feels alive with soft, organic tones that echo fur and living movement. Every finish is unique; no two pieces share the same subtle shifts of light and shade.
Lucy creates limited edition works for exhibitions and galleries and is widely commissioned for private collectors who want deeply personal pieces, often based on animals they know or have loved. She approaches each commission with quiet attentiveness, taking time to understand the animal’s presence and story so the final sculpture carries both likeness and soul.
Her work is collected across the UK and internationally, admired for its ability to balance accuracy with emotional truth. Each Lucy d’Auvergne piece invites pause - to witness not only an animal’s form but its quiet, breathing life; to feel a moment of connection preserved in metal and time.
