Nick Bibby
Figurative Sculpture | Wild Realism | Power in Motion
Nick Bibby is a sculptor whose figurative work encompasses bird, animal, human, and mythological subjects, capturing life and motion with a fluid energy and jewel-like precision and attention to detail that few can equal. His pieces feel both vivid and timeless, born from his love for form, aesthetics and the stories embedded in the subjects he sculpts.
Largely self-taught and driven by a passion for nature and anatomy, Nick begins each sculpture by immersing himself in his subject. Preferring to construct a complex three-dimensional mental image, rather than working from two-dimensional drawings. Beginning with a carefully constructed armature, he sculpts using wax or clay, adjusting form, detail, pose, and expression as he works, always striving for aesthetic balance, emotional clarity and that quintessential spark of life.
His work has wide reach and impact - from an imposing life-size Kodiak bear - Indomitable - commissioned by Brown University and now standing guard outside the Nelson Fitness Center, on their campus in Providence, to a series of life-size bronze reconstructions of extinct Mauritian wildlife, displayed on Ile aux Aigrettes, Mauritius, and acclaimed for their scientific accuracy, beauty and attention to detail.
Thriving on variety, Nick's limited editions - cast in bronze or hallmarked silver by Pangolin Editions, Gloucestershire - range from delicate bird studies to whales, great apes, heroic human torsos and mythical beasts. All are executed with an unwavering commitment to quality, whether for private collectors, public commissions, or galleries across the world.
Each Nick Bibby sculpture invites the viewer into its world - not only as a likeness, but as an encounter with vitality, myth and the mastery of form - sculptures that feel alive in their stillness, capturing a fleeting moment that lingers long in the memory.
