Peter Newsome
Glass Sculpture | Layered Construction | Technical, Sculptural, Light-Responsive
Peter Newsome’s practice explores the structural and sculptural possibilities of glass - transforming industrial materials into works that balance weight, transparency, and reflection. Originally trained in science and engineering, his approach to sculpture is deeply rooted in precision, but led by form and light.
Using toughened and annealed sheet glass, chemically bonded in layered constructions, his large-scale works often stand over two metres tall. They appear delicate, yet grounded - playing with space and natural light to create subtle shifts in tone, shadow, and clarity.
Since establishing his practice in 1993, Peter has exhibited internationally, with commissions in private, corporate, and public collections across three continents. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Sculptors, a member of the Royal Society of British Artists, and continues to expand the boundaries of contemporary glass sculpture from his studio in the UK.
