Sarah Lake
Paper Cut Art | Wildlife & Precision | Nature Honoured by Hand
Sarah Lake is a British paper artist based in Kent whose intricately hand-cut wildlife portraits capture the spirit and fragility of the natural world. Self-taught and deeply connected to her subjects, she transforms layers of paper into lifelike compositions that celebrate both artistry and conservation.
Each piece begins with observation - often her own photography - and evolves through hundreds of precise cuts, forming depth, movement, and emotion from one of the simplest materials imaginable. Every layer is sculpted by hand, revealing texture and shadow that bring her animal subjects to life with extraordinary sensitivity and care.
Driven by her love of wildlife and her commitment to protecting it, Sarah regularly donates her work to conservation charities including DSWF, Helping Rhinos, CCF, and The Big Cat Sanctuary. Her dedication has earned her wide recognition: winner of Sketch for Survival in 2021 and multiple shortlistings since; finalist and category winner at David Shepherd’s Wildlife Artist of the Year in 2022 and 2023; overall winner in 2024; and highly commended in 2025.
Each Sarah Lake creation is an act of devotion - a reminder that art can both honour and protect the natural world it portrays.
