Simon O'Rourke
Wood Sculpture | Figurative Carving | Expressive - Imaginative - Story-Led
Simon O’Rourke is a master of narrative in timber – creating sculptural works that invite the viewer into worlds of folklore, wildlife and imagination. Based in North Wales and carving for over two decades, Simon’s work blends anatomical precision with a raw emotional pull – always grounded in the natural shape and spirit of the wood itself.
Each piece begins with sustainably sourced trees – often those felled for safety or fallen naturally – giving new life to timber that might otherwise be lost. From mythical creatures to large-scale public installations, Simon’s carvings feel both grounded and otherworldly – expressive forms that carry story, strength and soul.
Internationally recognised and a multi-award-winning sculptor, Simon has competed and exhibited around the world – though it’s the craft itself, not the accolades, that drives him. His practice speaks to something timeless – a connection between maker, material and imagination that runs deeper than technique alone.
