STRANGE ATTRACTOR (Original)

I’ve long been fascinated by the natural world, especially the mathematics behind chaotic systems like weather, fluid dynamics, and neural networks. “Strange Attractor” grew from that interest, sparked over 30 years ago when I first read about the Lorenz Attractor, discovered by Edward Lorenz in the 1960s while studying atmospheric convection. Since then, I’ve wanted to create a sculpture from the complex forms that emerge when these systems are plotted in three-dimensional space.

This piece is inspired in particular by the Halvorsen Attractor, which creates intricate, self-repeating structures when its values are traced over time. The resulting form captures key qualities of chaos: unpredictability, complexity, and extreme sensitivity to small changes in starting conditions.
