James Parker
SCULPTURE | WATER, LIGHT & FORM | ELEMENTAL PRESENCE
James Parker is a British sculptor creating works that explore the relationship between material, landscape and natural movement. Working across slate, bronze, glass and stainless steel, he creates pieces shaped by balance, proportion, reflection and the quiet presence of water.
His practice is rooted in a deep understanding of material. Slate brings geological weight and layered texture; bronze offers permanence and warmth; stainless steel reflects its surroundings; glass and water introduce light, movement and changing perspective. Across each medium, James is concerned with how sculpture sits within a place, not just as an object, but as part of the environment around it.
His forms are often defined by soft curves, clean openings and a strong sense of flow. Light moves across polished surfaces, water alters the reading of a piece, and viewpoint changes how the sculpture is experienced. Whether placed in a garden, architectural setting or open landscape, the work feels grounded, calm and carefully resolved.
James’s wider practice includes private commissions, commercial projects and public or landscape-based works, with his website referencing bespoke, commercial, delivery and installation routes. His Sheltered Existence sculpture was commissioned for the National Trust for Scotland’s Inverewe Gardens, showing how his work can operate within nationally significant landscapes as well as private settings.
James Parker’s sculpture is defined by balance, restraint and atmosphere. Each piece is built to interact with light, landscape and time - quiet, tactile works that feel as though they belong to the place they occupy.
