PONGO (One-Off)

Bornean Orangutans are one of the most critically endangered species on the planet, with numbers decreasing to below 50,000 in the wild due to habitat loss, poaching and illegal pet trade. In the indigenous cultures of Borneo and Sumatra orangutans are believed to be wise sacred creatures commanding respect.

The name 'Orangutan' derives from the Malay and Indonesian words 'orang' (person) and 'hutan' (forest). Which translates to 'person of the forest'. This was a true source of inspiration for this sculpture and showing him in his natural habitat was essential. This sculpture aims at capturing this majestic, solitary, intelligent giant ape balanced with the fragile and uncertain future the species is on the brink of.

Suitable for a shelf space or side table, this sculpture is a unique piece of art and a real conversation starter.
