WHISPERS OF THE DUSK (One-Off)

The tawny owl is the UK's most common and largest native owl, living in dense woodlands and hunting at night. We always hear a female tawny owl 'tu-wit' at night over in the farm fields around us. It was when we heard the male response call 'tu-who' back and forth with the female I knew I had to create this sculpture. 

The title of this sculpture conveys the characteristics of the tawny owl. They are nocturnal creatures, known for their distinctive quiet presence in the twilight, and they embody silence, observation, and stealth. The composition of this owl aims to capture a quiet, reflective scene, looking at the serene mystery of dusk through those big, dark eyes.

Made from 260gsm pastel paper, each feather has been individually hand cut, painted and glued onto the body, taking shape one feather at a time. A visually textured piece, this sculpture looks at home in front of a fireplace or windowsill adding a sense of tranquillity to a space.
