ICARUS RISING (Limited Edition of 5)

A monumental celebration of freedom and ambition, Icarus Rising captures the Greek mythological figure at the height of his joyous ascent. This 5-metre bronze sculpture, full of energy and movement, is currently exhibited at Sculpture by the Lakes in Dorset.

Icarus Rising is a 5-metre tall bronze sculpture portraying the Greek mythological character in his most ecstatic moment - soaring towards the sun, brimming with youthful vigour and boundless energy. The piece symbolises the ultimate pursuit of freedom and ambition, capturing Icarus’s joy and determination as he strives for greatness before his inevitable fall. The sculpture is alive with movement, every muscle straining as he reaches skyward, embodying strength, exhilaration, and wonder.

Icarus Rising is my largest work to date and took 18 months to complete, finishing in 2024. Its monumental scale allows viewers to walk beneath the wings, creating an immersive experience that connects them to the myth and its timeless message about human aspiration. 

This piece is not just a representation of a myth but a reflection on the human spirit—the ambition, passion, and risk that come with striving for extraordinary heights. My hope is that Icarus Rising encourages viewers to embrace their own aspirations, celebrating the beauty and complexity of the journey, even when it involves the potential for failure.
