Simon Gudgeon MRSS
MONUMENTAL SCULPTURE | FORM & BALANCE | SCULPTURE IN LANDSCAPE
Simon Gudgeon is a world-renowned British sculptor whose work has helped shape contemporary sculpture in both public and private spaces for decades. Best known for his monumental works and the internationally recognised Sculpture by the Lakes in Dorset, Simon has built a career defined by scale, craftsmanship and a deep understanding of how sculpture interacts with landscape and architecture.
Working primarily in bronze, Simon creates sculptures that move between the figurative and the abstract with remarkable clarity and balance. Winged forms, elongated figures and organic structures appear throughout his work, often carrying a sense of lift, movement and stillness all at once. His sculptures are designed to be experienced from every angle, holding presence within a space without overpowering it.
That connection between sculpture and environment sits at the heart of Sculpture by the Lakes, the landmark sculpture park Simon created alongside his wife Monique. Combining major sculptural works with carefully designed gardens, lakes and planting, the park has become one of the UK’s leading sculpture destinations, visited by collectors, designers and art enthusiasts from around the world. Together, Simon and Monique have created a place centred around creativity, craftsmanship and the experience of living with art in nature.
Simon’s work has been exhibited and collected internationally for many years, with sculptures placed across private estates, public spaces and significant architectural settings throughout the UK, Europe, the United States and Asia. Alongside monumental outdoor works, his practice also includes smaller-scale pieces that carry the same refinement, balance and attention to form.
While instantly recognisable for their elegance and scale, Simon’s sculptures remain grounded in simplicity. His focus is always on form, proportion and the relationship between the piece and the space around it.
Simon Gudgeon’s work reflects decades of experience at the highest level of contemporary sculpture, creating pieces that feel timeless, considered and entirely at home in both landscape and architecture.
