Alastair Gibson
Carbon Fibre Sculptor | F1 Heritage | Founder of Carbon Art 45
Alastair Gibson creates extraordinary sculptural works from carbon fibre and repurposed Formula 1 components - merging cutting-edge engineering with organic form. After a 22-year career in motorsport, including ten years as chief mechanic for BAR and Honda F1, Gibson turned his precision and innovation toward art, becoming among the first artists to explore carbon fibre as a dedicated sculptural medium.
Every piece is a technical and visual triumph - sharks, skulls, marine life, Spitfire aircraft, and both natural and human forms - reimagined through aerospace-grade materials and a deep understanding of structure and flow. Many incorporate authentic F1 parts, including brake ducts, wishbones, exhausts, and gold-plated terminals, connecting each sculpture to a legacy of speed, performance, and design excellence.
From the monumental Carbon David to the powerful God Save the African Queen skull, Gibson’s works feel both futuristic and primal - designed to last forever yet rooted in heritage and natural form. Finished to the highest standard in his Northamptonshire studio, with paint and polish often completed in collaboration with a local F1 paint team, these are museum-level works that sit confidently at the top of the market.
His work is widely collected and exhibited, prized for its bold presence, rarity, and flawless finish - making Gibson a perfect fit for the Artisan Collective and its celebration of British innovation at its finest.
