AMONGST THE ROOTS (Original)

In Amongst the Roots, Alison Holt draws the viewer into the sheltered space beneath mature trees, where exposed roots grip the earth and filtered light settles across leaf-strewn ground. The composition is anchored by the solidity of the trunks, while softer greens and pale reflections beyond suggest water and open space just out of view.

Layered stitch builds texture gradually – bark, foliage and fallen leaves rendered through dense, directional thread that gives the surface both depth and weight. The work holds a quiet intimacy, capturing a moment of stillness where growth, decay and continuity exist together, inviting slow observation and close attention.
