RED DEER STAGS 'THE DUEL' (Limited Edition of 12)

A dramatic quarter-life bronze capturing the explosive power of two red deer stags battling for supremacy during the rut. Nick Bibby has a long-standing affinity for these animals - Britain’s largest native wild species - and this piece stems from years of observing them across the moors, mountains and woodlands of Devon, Somerset and Cumbria. Their presence is unmistakable: the deep, resonant calls, the clash of antlers echoing across the landscape, the tension and theatre of the season. The Duel distils that intensity into a single sculptural moment.

The composition sets two mature ‘Royal’ stags head-to-head, antlers locked, muscles braced, and weight pushed forward in a contest of strength and dominance. Every line of anatomy is modelled with precision - the sweep of each tine, the torque through the shoulders, the grounded stance that reveals both power and vulnerability. Nick’s sculpting captures the physicality of the fight, but also the nobility and presence of these remarkable animals.

This work is also a return to a subject that holds personal significance for Nick. After sculpting The Emperor of Exmoor as a tribute to the legendary stag lost to poaching, he was compelled to revisit the species in a way that celebrated their vitality and wild spirit. The Duel is the result - a piece that honours the majesty of the red deer through movement, drama and sculptural craft.

Cast in bronze and extending over four feet in length, it commands attention from every angle: a bold centrepiece that brings the atmosphere of the rut into the room with real presence.
