PEACOCK: LIFE SIZE (Limited Edition of 12)

Commissioned by Arbuthnot Latham for the reception of its new London head office, this life-size peacock acknowledges the bank’s historic links to India and its peacock emblem. The bird stands on a bronze cast taken from ancient Caledonian tree root found by Mackie at a Scottish loch, a further reference to the bank’s Scottish founders.

To reproduce the complex pattern and layers of the peacock’s tail, the artist used three-dimensional printing based on real peacock feathers, then built up the form in clay for bronze casting. The work combines an elaborate natural form with an inventive technical approach.
