Tall, vertical abstract sculpture by Nicola Beattie, meticulously hand-carved from scorched sycamore. The monolithic form features a deep, elongated central hollow framed by natural wood highlights against a richly textured, blackened surface. Mounted on a solid square base, the piece evokes ancient standing stones and architectural ruins, with a tactile finish that invites close inspection. Its black and warm beige tones, organic curves, and minimalist presence make it a striking statement for interiors.

PILERI (One-Off)

This sculpture marks the beginning of Nicola Beattie’s Pileri series - a body of work centred on columnar forms inspired by pillars, castle turrets, and ancient towers. The surface has been deliberately worked and weathered, with etched markings and scorched textures that evoke age, erosion, and architectural endurance.

Darkened archways are carved into opposing sides of the form, one deeper and more dominant than the other. These voids act as symbolic refuges - places of retreat and shelter amid conflict and trauma. They invite quiet contemplation, offering a sense of protection within the solidity of the structure.

The scorched sycamore surface is richly textured, its blackened exterior scraped back in places to reveal pale markings beneath. These lighter traces recall lime salts cascading down ruined walls, a familiar sight in the historic landscapes of Pembrokeshire. Together, surface and form balance weight with stillness – a sculpture shaped by history, resilience, and the human need for sanctuary.
