Nicola Beattie
Contemplative Forms in Wood | Sculptural Silence & Enduring Presence
Nicola Beattie creates quietly powerful sculptures in wood - elegant, monolithic forms that invite stillness, reflection, and emotional pause. Now based in Pembrokeshire, the landscape of her Welsh homeland has become central to her practice. Her works are inspired by the architectural remains of ruined castles, ancient standing stones, and archaeological relics - places where history feels suspended in time.
Using oak as her primary medium, Nicola carves textured pillars, towers, and abstract forms that evoke erosion, endurance, and memory. Each surface - whether gently pitted or darkened with char - speaks to past conflict and quiet resilience, balancing light and shadow, presence and absence. Her sculptures often appear as solitary guardians or meditative pairs, shaped to interact with the space around them and the people who stand before them.
With a sculptural career spanning over three decades, Nicola’s work has been shown widely across the UK and internationally, with pieces held in collections across Europe, America, Australia, and Hong Kong. Notable commissions include public artworks in Cambridgeshire and a major bronze installation for the luxury Ontolo development in Tolo Harbour.
Nicola’s current work translates her deep connection to place into carved wooden forms that act as quiet witnesses - timeless, grounded, and serene. Each piece is an invitation to pause, to listen, and to connect with something enduring.
