TORR (One-Off)

A compact yet powerful work from Nicola Beattie’s Pileri series, this sculpture distils the language of monumental architecture into a quieter, more intimate form. Slender and upright, it draws on the visual vocabulary of ancient castles - lancet windows, narrow towers, and places built to endure.

Evenly textured across its surface, the sculpture carries a calm, deliberate rhythm. The darkened vertical openings invite the viewer inward, suggesting refuge and stillness - a space shaped for retreat, contemplation, and pause amid conflict. As with much of Beattie’s work, the tension between exterior solidity and interior sanctuary is central.

Carved from dense walnut that was seasoned for over twenty years, the material brings a natural depth and warmth to the piece. Finished by hand with wax, the surface retains a quiet lustre that rewards close viewing and touch.

A measured, contemplative sculpture that speaks softly, yet with lasting presence.
