BRITISH LOP PIG: LISKEARD SUNSHINE 500 (Limited Edition of 12)
A Pretty Pig!
A refined and affectionate bronze study of Liskeard Sunshine 500, one of the most celebrated British Lop pigs of recent decades and the first muse in Nick Bibby’s British Champion Animals series. Nick chose the British Lop not only for its West Country heritage but for the quiet elegance of the breed - long, level backs, finely shaped heads, and those distinctive leaf-like ears that soften and frame the face.
Working directly from Sunshine in Cornwall, Nick spent hours recording her proportions, movement and temperament. The resulting clay sculpture captures the gentle dips and swells of her form, the smooth musculature, and the calm presence that made her a multiple champion. Clay was a natural medium for this subject, allowing Nick to model the subtleties of her silhouette without losing the clean, flowing lines that define a true British Lop.
The finished bronze carries a delicate, multi-tonal patina - soft whites with touches of pink, grey and warm gold - a nuanced finish developed to echo Sunshine’s pale colouring without literal replication. It’s one of Nick’s most admired patinas, chosen for the way it elevates the sculpture’s surface and enhances its quiet grace.
Liskeard Sunshine 500’s show record highlights her status as a breed icon:
- Supreme Champion – Devon County Show (2005)
- Female Breed Champion – Royal Show (2006)
- Female Breed Champion – Royal Cornwall Show (2005–2008)
- Supreme Champion – Royal Cornwall Show (2009)
- Sire: Liskeard General 10 | Dam: Liskeard Sunshine 487
