High-angle composite image of Hong Kong commuters moving through a brightly lit station, captured using high-speed video reconstruction. The figures are partially blurred and distorted, their faces downturned toward phones—creating a visual rhythm that blurs individuality, echoing the dehumanising pace of mass transit systems.

COMMUTER #1, HONG KONG (Limited Edition of 5)

I spent over 20 years living and working in Hong Kong and China. This image was taken last year, 2024, as Hong Kongers make their way through the ever-expanding labyrinth that is mass transit railway system.  Here, individuals seem to lose their humanity and become part of the "machine".

City Scans is an ongoing series examining the flow of transport and commuting in global cities like Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, Istanbul and Vienna. Using reconstructed high-speed video scans, I capture the movement of people through time and space -revealing the rhythm and pulse of each city. The work explores the blurred boundary between the digital and physical, where commuters become part of the system -absorbed into its data, pace and machinery.

Materials: Reconstructed high-speed video images, printed on brushed aluminium.
Size: 100 cm x 100 cm
Edition:  Limited Edition of 5  (plus 2 AC)
