ORANGUTAN 'OLD MAN OF THE FOREST' LIFE SIZE (Limited Edition of 12)

A life-size portrait of the Sumatran orangutan “Dagu,” the alpha male at Jersey Zoo, captured with remarkable sensitivity and presence. Nick Bibby’s sculpture reflects everything that makes these great apes so compelling - immense physical power balanced with gentleness, intelligence and a quiet, soulful depth in the eyes.

Working directly from extensive observation and reference of Dagu, Nick has modelled every nuance of expression, bone structure and hair pattern to bring a true sense of character to the piece. The result is a striking, contemplative study that feels both intimate and monumental, honouring an animal whose presence commands respect.

Cast in bronze in an edition of 12, Old Man of the Forest stands as both a sculptural achievement and a tribute to a critically endangered species. The first cast is now available.

10% of all profits from this edition support the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP) and Jersey Zoo’s ongoing work to protect orangutans in the wild.
