SEARCH FOR ENLIGHTENMENT (Limited Edition of 7)

Search for Enlightenment is a monumental bronze sculpture by Simon Gudgeon, exploring ideas of consciousness, perspective and humanity’s place within the wider universe. The interlocking facial forms create a powerful visual dialogue, drawing the viewer through the sculpture while encouraging reflection from every angle.

The smooth flowing bronze surfaces and open circular forms give the piece both strength and calmness, balancing scale with an understated elegance. As light changes throughout the day, the contours and internal spaces gradually shift in character, creating a continually evolving presence within the landscape.

Originally unveiled beside Tate Britain as part of the Westminster City of Sculpture Festival before later being installed outside One Hyde Park in London, Search for Enlightenment has become one of Simon Gudgeon’s most recognised large-scale works. A smaller bronze version was also presented to The Duke of Edinburgh for his 90th Birthday.

“I stood on a 240 million year old mountain in Africa and watched the 4.6 billion year old sun descend below the horizon. As the light diminished, the 200 billion stars in the Milky Way began to glow in the night sky. Our galaxy extends for 100,000 light years and is part of a universe consisting of hundreds of billions of galaxies."
