‘Sea Drift’ by Heather McAlpine, an original contemporary seascape painting in acrylic on canvas inspired by the Cornish coastline. Layers of luminous aquamarine and deep marine blue water are contrasted with textured shoreline details, white sea spray and subtle ochre tones, creating a striking portrait-format composition that evokes light, depth and the ever-changing movement of the sea.

SEA DRIFT (Original)

A tall, atmospheric composition in which layers of sea, shoreline and distant land appear to drift through one another. Deep marine blues and turquoise tones are interrupted by dark, gestural marks and warmer flashes of ochre, suggesting rock, sand and reflected coastal light.

The portrait format gives the work an unusual sense of depth, drawing the eye from the open water through the textured shoreline and into the softer colour below. Layered acrylic paint and fluid mark-making create a seascape that feels remembered and experienced rather than precisely mapped.

This painting is inspired by the sea and has different layers of sea-inspired colours & textures, the vertical format feels like you are looking through a 'window' it has a sense of distance, with aquamarine sea in the foreground and deeper 'lake like' colours surrounded by frothy sea-spray.
