KODIAK BROWN BEAR: INDOMITABLE - HEAD STUDY (Limited Edition of 12)

The Head of a Truly Monumental Bear

A commanding 7½-foot bronze head study - including its bronze plinth - taken directly from Nick Bibby’s monumental Kodiak Brown Bear, Indomitable. This piece distils the essence of the 15-foot sculpture created for Brown University in Providence, capturing the immense power, intelligence and physical authority of one of the world’s most formidable animals.

The creation of Indomitable was an extraordinary undertaking: a life-size 10½-foot Kodiak Brown Bear brought to reality through the combined efforts of Nick and more than 100 skilled specialists at Pangolin Editions. The process began with a 1/5-scale clay maquette, which was digitally enlarged, modelled in foam, then re-sculpted by hand in wax to refine every texture, fold and detail. The final bronze was cast using a combination of lost-wax and large-scale sand-mould techniques, ensuring absolute fidelity to Nick’s original sculpting.

This head study comes from the monumental bear itself - the same structure, the same detailing, the same emotional charge. It radiates the extraordinary presence that defines Indomitable; a sense of raw, almost prehistoric majesty that is deeply affecting when encountered at scale.

Indomitable now stands outside the Nelson Fitness Centre at Brown University, with a second cast exhibited in central London near Marble Arch. The head study offers collectors a rare chance to own the defining focal point of one of Nick Bibby’s most ambitious and internationally recognised works.
