CAMINO (One-Off)

This cedar sculpture stands as a quiet marker of transition and renewal. Carved steps rise steeply within the form, leading upward through the body of the sculpture towards an opening of light on the far side. The journey is contained, deliberate, and physical - a climb that speaks to endurance, effort, and the promise of arrival.

Camino forms part of Nicola Beattie’s ongoing monolith series and shares its conceptual lineage with Ascent, a larger oak sculpture completed earlier in the year. Together, these works explore the idea of pilgrimage - a steady progression through challenge and uncertainty towards clarity, balance, and peace.

The title comes from the Spanish word for “path” or “way”, reinforcing the work’s focus on personal journey and spiritual passage. The surface bears the marks of hand carving, while the solid oak base grounds the piece with weight and permanence. Calm in presence yet rich in meaning, Camino invites reflection on movement, purpose, and quiet resilience.
