RED STAG: LIFE SIZE (Limited Edition of 9)

Images show clay original for bronze.

A life-size Highland red stag influenced by Edwin Landseer’s The Monarch of the Glen, but shaped by Mackie’s direct experiences observing deer in the Scottish hills. The stag is presented in late September, in prime condition and surveying its territory ahead of the rut. Rather than depict a confrontation, Mackie chooses an interval of stillness and anticipation.

Its stance and scale communicate the composure and authority of a mature wild animal, alongside the atmosphere of the Highland landscape. The artist acknowledges the stalkers and ghillies who helped with the research.

Medium: Bronze
Edition: Signed and dated 2026; numbered edition of 9
Dimensions: Approx. 302 H × 177 L × 100 W cm
Additional details: Source photographs show the original clay model.
