SENTINEL (One-Off)

This is one of a series of ‘Sentinel’ sculptures which consists of tall slim forms standing as guardians, with a variety of textures carved into the surfaces.  

I’ve focused on making a pitted texture here with blackened markings to portray age and history, as if these sentinels have been standing on watch for aeons.  The lancet window and circular windows at the top are inspired by castle features, with the two windows at the top representing eyes; still and watchful.

I have made this piece with a backward curve to the form to give a more figurative look to the piece.  This sculpture is finished with oil and wax, and smooth to the touch.
