Description
Snail on the Slope (Silence, Opus 7) is a meditation on time and silence. The title is drawn from Kobayashi Issa’s famous haiku:
O snail
Climb Mount Fuji,
But slowly, slowly…
Just three lines, yet with such depth - reminding us that time moves patiently, and so do we.
This painting continues my ongoing Silence series, in which each work is titled like a musical composition. For me, silence is the most profound music of the universe, something we must learn to hear amidst the noise of daily life. Painting, though wordless, has its own voice - a quiet resonance that speaks within us if we allow it.
The work also pays tribute to Snail on the Slope, the philosophical novel by the Strugatsky brothers that has shaped my thinking since youth. Together, the haiku and the book inspired a piece about patience, presence, and listening - to silence, to the universe, and to the soul.
Listen to the silence.
Listen to your soul.
We learn.
But slowly, slowly…
